                  | | The UKs Largest ever renewables Project gets go-ahead | | Submitted: 21 November 2007 |

            | The Last night, John Hutton announced that Prenergys 350MW Biomass Project had been given consent. |

            | The project will be built at Port Talbot, and will be fuelled by sustainably grown wood, certified to the highest international standards. At 350 MW, this project is larger than all our existing biomass plant put together, said Gaynor Hartnell, Deputy Director of the Renewable Energy Association. It will produce as much renewable electricity as the largest offshore wind farm. We need a dramatic expansion of renewable energy at all scales, in the move to a more sustainable energy future. |

            | Matthew Carse of Prenergy Power said: This is a groundbreaking step, not only for Port Talbot but for environmentally friendly power generation in the UK as a whole. Using wood chip from independently certified sustainable forestry, which ensure harvested trees are replanted, means that generation is carbon neutral and sustainable. Port Talbots deepwater facilities mean that fuel can be brought to the plant cleanly and easily. Its an ideal location. |
