Next week’s Energy White Paper is the golden opportunity for the Government to express its vision for a greener future, says the newly appointed Chief Executive of the Renewable Power Association, which represents the generators of most of the country’s renewable power.
Philip Wolfe, formerly Chairman of Intersolar Group the UK’s leading solar cell manufacturer, took over as CEO at the beginning of February.

RPA panel gives evidence to S&T Select Committee

A panel assembled by the Renewable Power Association gave evidence yesterday to the Science and Technology Select Committee inquiry “Towards a Non-Carbon Fuel Economy: Research, Development and Demonstration.”

The Olympia Exhibition Centre saw several thousand attendees at Sustainable Energy and Energy Efficiency exhibitions between 22-24th October. The simultaneous conference organised by the UK’s Renewable Power Association was similarly a sell out. It focussed on the delivery of renewable energy across all renewable technologies, and the need to have co-ordinated policies across Government departments.
An impressive array of CEOs and senior government and industry specialists debated widely on the barriers to delivery. A general consensus emerged that, whilst technically feasible, the UK 2010 targets are unlikely to be delivered under the current policy framework, mostly because of institutional and bureaucratic barriers and lack of confidence in the financial community.

Green Generators call for positive action to support Government policy as income slashed under NETA

Ofgem’s recent report [1] on how small generators have fared in the first two months of the New Electricity Trading Arrangements (“NETA”) shows that the output from Renewable Electricity generators fell by up to 14% and prices fell by around a quarter. Ignoring the impact of the Climate Change Levy, a sector targeted for growth has seen revenues decline by over a third.... |
