Submitted: 9 December 2004
The IEE Hunter Memorial Lecture and Dinner will be held on Thursday, 9 December 2004, The IEE, Austin Court, Birmingham, UK.
About the Lecture

Wind Power is coming of age as a power generation source.

In the 2004 Hunter Memorial Lecture, Professor Peter Tavner, University of Durham, will review the technical developments that have made modern wind turbines possible and the advances that must be made to ensure the place of wind as a secure, reliable source of electrical power.

Professor Tavner will demonstrate some of the key features of wind turbine design, manufacture, installation and control that are important to power engineers, and will show how wind power is taking its place alongside more conventional sources as an important power provider for the future.

About the Speaker

Peter Tavner is the Professor of New and Renewable Energy in the School of Engineering at the University of Durham.

He has held a number of research and senior technical positions in industry including Technical Director of Laurence, Scott & Electromotors Ltd and Brush Electrical Machines Ltd. Most recently he has been Group Technical Director of FKI Energy Technology, an international business that manufactures wind turbines, electrical machines, electrical drives, dynamometers, transformers and switchgear in the UK, Holland, Italy, Germany and the Czech Republic.

Who should attend?
