The lack of a widely understood accreditation system for products and installers is one of a number of barriers to the widespread deployment of micro-generation technologies. There are a number of separate training and accreditation schemes currently available, but no unified scheme that exists independently of specific government support programmes for the uptake of these technologies. With the Low Carbon Buildings Programme due to take over from clear skies next year, this issue becomes more pressing.
This area is highlighted in the Micro-generation Strategy consultation which includes a number of questions relating to the most effective way of setting up and running a reputable accreditation scheme and most effective way of supporting the development of robust product standards for all micro-generation technologies (including installation and maintenance).
The RPA is organising this Micro-generation accreditation workshop on 3 August 2005, on behalf of the DTI, to explore the best way of taking these ideas forward.
