The REA launches as a strong voice for the renewables industry
Submitted: 2 December 2005
We formally launched the Renewable Energy Association in grand fashion yesterday, with speeches from the BBC's John Humphrys, Conservative leadership candidate David Cameron MP and Minister for Transport, Dr Stephen Ladyman MP. The event took place at 1 Great George Street, London.

The change of name to the Renewable Energy Association acknowledges that our activities now cover renewable heat and fuels as well as renewable electricity.

David Cameron called for cross party support for action to tackle climate change, so that the issues may be addressed on a longer term timeframe than the normal parliamentary cycles. (See link to his speech below.)

Stephen Ladyman outlined the environmental challenges facing transport in the UK and explained the Renewable Transport Fuels Obligation, which will require 5% all UK fuel sold on UK forecourts to come from a renewable source by 2010.

John Humphrys shared some tips about gaining media support for renewable energy and gave an entertaining commentary on current events.
