RPA proposals for transitional support for emerging renewables
Submitted: 6 November 2003
The Renewables Obligation is working and offers the prospect of delivering the shared objective of increasing renewable generation of 10% by 2010, rising thereafter to the level needed to achieve 60% reduction is CO2 emissions by 2050. Several improvements (covered elsewhere) are required to make the RO effective in delivering these aims.

However the RO is effective only for established renewables and, because it is technology blind, it is not effective for bringing new resources into play. The RPA is seeking a new approach, complementary to the Renewables Obligation, which can fill this gap.
