Weather Risk Industry Access Workshop, 22 June 2004
Submitted:22June2004
The Smith Institute and the Centre for the Analysis of Time Series at the London School of Economics are holding a one-day industry access workshop at the London School of Economics on 22 June 2004, to increase awareness of new methods for decision making in the presence of environmentally induced risk. The methods being discussed have been developed as part of the Faraday research project DIME (Direct and Inverse Methods in End-to-End Environmental Estimation), using probabilistic weather forecasting in combination with utility functions.
It is anticipated that the workshop will focus on a forecast range of 3-14 days, but, if there is demand, some attention will also be given to seasonal forecasting. We are also inviting industry to bring potential applications to the workshop, and, if appropriate, to speak at one of the afternoon sessions.
